§ Mr. CurryThe review has now been completed. The Government are satisfied that there is a real and specific threat to the amenity of tourist areas from the establishment460W of such hostels in traditional hotel areas. It is investigating the feasibility of legislation to introduce a licensing system for the establishment of hostels.
As a temporary measure pending the introduction of any such licensing scheme, an amending order being made today will amend the Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 1987 to require planning permission for the change of use from a hotel to a hostel.
