To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the change since the establishment of the single market in the quantity of wine, spirits and cigarettes for personal consumption imported.

Customs and Excise estimate that legitimate imports for personal consumption in the year to 31 December 1993 increased by approximately 40 million litres in the case of wine, 10 million litres of bottled spirits and 400 million cigarettes.
