Lord Ferrers has asked me to reply to your recent Question asking how many (a) remanded and (b) sentenced women were received into custody in each of the women's prisons during any recent convenient three-month period and how many of the sentenced women were imprisoned respectively for non-payment of fines; non-payment of community charge, rates or council tax; and non-payment of fines imposed for not possessing a television licence.
The readily available provisional information for October-December 1993 is given in the attached tables.
