HL Deb 30 June 1994 vol 556 c55WA
Lord Campbell of Croy

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they intend to introduce legislation to establish a statutory scheme of registration and professional self-regulation for physiotherapists, on lines similar to the Osteopaths Act 1993 and the Chiropractors Bill, or whether they would welcome a Private Member's bill for this purpose.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Cumberlege)

There is already a statutory scheme of registration for physiotherapists under the Professions Supplementary to Medicine Act 1960. The Government have no plans at present to change these arrangements. I cannot commit the Government to supporting a Private Member's Bill on this subject, but we will watch any proposals with interest.
