§ Mr. Michael ForsythThe last fit-for-work awards were made in 1990. I have arranged for a list of the award winners in 1989 and 1990 to be placed in the Library.
Following consultation on the 1990 Document, "Employment and Training for People with Disabilities", and advice from the National Advisory Council on Employment of people with disabilities, the then Secretary of State for Employment announced his decision to end the award scheme in 1991.
The percentage of registered disabled people employed by winners was not verified as part of the award process. These awards were intended to help promote positive policies in all aspects of the employment of disabled people, whether registered or not.
