HL Deb 06 June 1994 vol 555 c70WA
The Marquess of Ailesbury

asked the Leader of the House:

What is the average age of (a) the Hereditary Peers and (b) the Life Peers who regularly attend the House.

The Lord Privy Seal (Lord Wakeham)

There is no standard definition of what constitutes regular attendance. The average age, at the end of the 1992–93 session, of those hereditary Peers (including created hereditary Peers) who attended more than one-third of the sittings during that session was 62 years. The average age of those life Peers (including Peers created under the Appellate Jurisdiction Act 1876) who attended more than one-third of the sittings was 71 years.
