How much of the Permanent Secretary to the Treasury's career has been spent working in the Treasury and what experience he has of working in other Government Departments or in business.

Sir Terence Burns joined the Treasury as Chief Economic Adviser in 1980 after spending over 14 years at the London Business School.

Of those civil servants at Grade 1A in the Treasury, how much of their careers have been spent in the Treasury and what experience they have of working outside the Treasury.

Lord Henley

There are currently three civil servants at Grade 1A working in the Treasury. Of these, one joined directly from further education but has since spent some time in another department. The other two joined the Treasury from the private sector.

How many civil servants at Grade 2 work in the Treasury, how much of their careers have been spent in the Treasury and what experience they have of working outside the Treasury.

Lord Henley

There are currently four civil servants at Grade 2 working in the Treasury. Of these, two joined directly from further education but have since spent some time outside government, one is on loan from another government department and one joined following a short spell in teaching.

There are currently 22 civil servants at Grade 3 working in the Treasury. Of these, seven joined directly from further education, eight from other government departments, and seven from other organisations. Of those who joined directly, four have spent some of their career working outside the Treasury.

There are currently three civil servants at Grade 4 working in the Treasury. Of these, one joined directly from further education but has since had a spell on loan in another department. The other two joined the Treasury from other government departments.

Lord Henley

There are currently 63 civil servants at Grade 5 working in the Treasury. Of these, 13 joined directly from further education, 43 from other government departments and seven from other organisations. Of the 13 who joined directly, seven have spent some of their career working outside the Treasury.
