HL Deb 26 July 1994 vol 557 c86WA
Lord Mason of Barnsley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many people have been killed and injured in Northern Ireland and Great Britain by terrorist groups: which groups were involved and whether civilians or members of the security forces were killed or injured.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Northern Ireland Office (Baroness Denton of Wakefield)

Between 1969 and 31st December 1993, RUC figures show that 3,112 people were killed, and 36,224 injured, in Northern Ireland as a result of the security situation in the Province. The respective figures for Great Britain since 1972 (when Home Office records commenced) are 108 and 1,872.

Of those killed in Northern Ireland, 938 were members of the security forces and 2,174 were civilians. Twelve thousand, five hundred and fifty-two security force members and 23,672 civilians were injured. It is not possible to provide a similar breakdown of the figures for Great Britain, nor is it possible, in either case, to attribute deaths to specific terrorists groups.
