HL Deb 26 July 1994 vol 557 c86WA
Earl Russell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many of the 118,528 people who received severe hardship payments of income support during 1993 were registered for Youth Training, and what was the average length of time they had been waiting for a place.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Social Security (Lord Mackay of Ardbrecknish)

The figure of 118,528 equates to the number of successful applications for income support and not to the number of different individuals who claimed during the year. Information on the number of people who received a severe hardship payment is not available, nor information on the average length of time they awaited a place.
