Physiotherapy (Hansard, 11 July 1994)

§ Ms Primarolo
To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will undertake a review of the Professions Supplementary to Medicine Act 1960 to introduce a proper regulatory system within the physiotherapy profession.

§ Mr. Sackville
The profession is already regulated under that Act. We have at present no plans to change these arrangements.

§ Ms Primarolo
To ask the Secretary of State for Health what plans she has to prevent people with no relevant qualifications from describing themselves as physiotherapists and treating patients.

§ Mr. Sackville
The title of state registered physiotherapist is already protected by law.

§ Ms Primarolo
To ask the Secretary of State for Health what representations she has received about unqualified physiotherapists in the private sector.

§ Mr. Sackville
We have received letters on this subject from 18 right hon. and hon. Members since 1 April.
