How many known drug addicts have been identified within prison establishments in Great Britain since 1988.

Lord Ferrers has asked me to reply to your recent Question about the number of known drug addicts in Great Britain since 1988.

Between 1988 and 1993 the Home Office (C5 division) were notified of 11,987 drug addicts identified within prison establishments in England, Scotland and Wales.

The table below gives comparative totals for these five years.
