HL Deb 06 July 1994 vol 556 cc79-80WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is (a) the purpose and (b) the intended scale of the "national cells at NATO headquarters" that signatories of Partnership for Peace agreements may establish.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

NATO has offered permanent facilities at NATO Headquarters for personnel from Partnership for Peace participants in order to improve working relationships and facilitate closer co-operation. Thirty offices have been built for this purpose.

Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether Croatia, Bosnia or any other states in former Yugoslavia have been invited to take part in the Partnership for Peace programme, and if so which of them, and when.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

The January NATO Summit invited all states participating in the North Atlantic Co-operation Council, and other CSCE countries able and willing to contribute to the programme, to join the Partnership for Peace. Of the countries of the former Yugoslavia, Slovenia signed the Partnership for Peace Framework Document on 30 March 1994.
