HC Deb 25 January 1994 vol 236 c135W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage if he will make a statement setting out his policy and his objectives in relation to the British film industry.

Mr. Brooke

It is the Government's policy to create an economic framework which will allow the United Kingdom film industry to thrive. The Department's medium-term objectives in relation to film are to help reverse the decline in British film production since 1985; to promote the United Kingdom as a location for the filming of feature films, television programmes and commercials; to expand opportunities for access to high quality films from Britain and elsewhere; and to foster international co-operation in production, distribution and exhibition of films. Measures to achieve these objectives are under consideration, and I will make an announcement as soon as practicable.
