HC Deb 25 January 1994 vol 236 c162W
Mr. Paice

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what provision he is making for local emergency planning in 1994–95; and if he will make a statement regarding training for volunteers.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

During 1994–95 a maximum of £15 million will be available from the Home Office as a contribution towards expenses incurred by local authorities in carrying out their responsibilities under the Civil Defence (General Local Authority Functions) Regulations 1993.

The Home Office no longer provides funds for the training of volunteers for civil defence but encourages local authorities to develop and maintain relationships with established voluntary organisations. Some authorities have chosen to keep their volunteer groups and to provide training.
