To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many passengers were on a charter flight by British Caledonian from the Caribbean arriving at Gatwick on 14 December; how many passengers were(a) allowed to enter the United Kingdom as visitors, (b) given temporary admission as a visitor to the United Kingdom, (c) refused entry, (d) detained and (e) deported; how many passengers remain in detention; and what was the (i) minimum and (ii) the maximum period for which the passengers sought to visit the United Kingdom.

Mr. Charles Wardle

The available information is as follows. I understand that 353 passengers arrived on flight BA 1262—KT 310—at Gatwick on 15 December. Most were citizens of Jamaica who sought entry as visitors. Thirty-eight people were refused leave to enter of whom 33 have been removed. Twelve of those refused were detained, none of whom remain in detention. Those admitted as visitors were given leave to enter for six months.
