To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what proposals he has to widen the M1 motorway in west Yorkshire.

Mr. Key

As part of the Department's proposals for the M1-A1 link road east of Leeds, it is planned to widen the M1 motorway over a one-mile length between Lofthouse interchange and Belle Isle. This local widening is needed to accommodate the major traffic flows between the M1, M62 and A1.
