To ask the President of the Board of Trade what assessment he has made as to the effect of the GATT on employment.

Studies by the OECD, the World bank and a number of other independent bodies have forecast substantial gains in world income as a result of the completion of the Uruguay round.

I am therefore confident that the success of the round will bring significant increases in United Kingdom output and employment over the next decade, as well as boosting business confidence in the short term.
