HL Deb 19 January 1994 vol 551 c45WA
Lord Harris of Greenwich

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many letters have been received by Ministers in support of their proposals for the changes in the composition of police authorities set out in the White Paper on police reform and how many have opposed them; and whether they will list those organisations which have backed the proposals.

The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers)

We have received some 500 letters in all. Many of them welcome various aspects of the proposals, including the principle of broader local representation on police authorities. None of the 360 letters from organisations supported fully the detailed proposals in relation to police authority membership.
