HL Deb 19 January 1994 vol 551 c45WA
Lord Bruce of Donington

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What was the total number of cases dealt with by the Court of First Instance of the European Community in each of the years 1988 to 1993 inclusive; and how many of those cases in each year concerned disputes between employees of the Community institutions and the institutions themselves.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Chalker of Wallasey)

The court did not hold its first hearing until December 1989. Some 150 cases were transferred to the Court of First Instance from the European Court of Justice in September 1989. We are unable to divide these between staff cases and others. The figures for subsequent years are as follows:

Year Total number of cases Number concerning staff of the Community institutions
1990 55 43
1991 93 81
1992 123 79
1993 628 83
