HL Deb 11 January 1994 vol 551 c24WA
Lord Brabazon of Tara

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will consider lowering the minimum deposit of £20 for National Savings Investment Accounts in order to encourage small savers, in particular children.

Lord Henley

From 1 February 1993, the minimum deposit required for a National Savings Investment Account was increased from £5 to £20. This, together with other measures, will produce administrative savings of some £5 million a year. There are no plans to make further changes.
