To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what study his Department has made of the effect on bus fares of the rise in duty on diesel fuel.

§ Mr. Freeman
The effect should be very small. The rise in duty on diesel fuel represents an increase of under 1 per cent. on total operating costs.
