HL Deb 21 February 1994 vol 552 c38WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether reports that the Home Office is intending to block reforms agreed by all other signatories to the European Convention on Human Rights are correct, and whether they are aware of the importance for the citizens of the East European and ex-Soviet States of these reforms, and of the simplification they embody for them as well as for the citizens of all other signatories.

Earl Ferrers

Contrary to a recent press report, the Government fully share the commitment of other member states of the Council of Europe to the reform of the European Commission and Court of Human Rights which will enable the increasing number of cases to be dealt with simply and speedily to the benefit of everyone within the jurisdiction of all the states concerned.
