§ Mr. RiddickTo ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement on his discussions with Sir Leon Brittan and others concerning the level of tariffs being levied on textiles by India, Pakistan, Indonesia and Korea.
§ Mr. Needham[holding answer 14 February 1994]: In contacts with the commission on the Uruguay round market access negotiations, United Kingdom ministers and officials have underlined our concern that the Commission should take every opportunity to press the Governments of India, Pakistan and Indonesia to improve their offers in respect of textiles and clothing. The European Commission 837W has made clear its determination to continue negotiations to improve market access offers, if necessary until ministers sign the GATT Final Act in April. As far as Korean tariff increases on wool fabrics are concerned, I have written to the Korean Finance and Trade Industry ministers to express my concern.
