§ Sir George YoungCash incentive schemes grants are a cost-effective measure which enable local authorities to improve the supply of affordable housing for rent to people in need. They also provide a boost to the housing market. Since its introduction in 1989 the cash incentive scheme has created over 8,000 vacancies by reletting, and enabled the same number of households to buy their own home.
