HL Deb 07 February 1994 vol 551 cc106-7WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Which government department is currently the lead department for NATO affairs (including the day-to-day management of "partnerships for peace" discussions and negotiations); and whether there has been any structural change within the Government in response to the lapse of the Warsaw Pact, the political implications of both internal and external NATO activities now having more importance and its military activities less.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

NATO affairs, including the day to day management of the Partnership for Peace, remain the joint responsibility of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Ministry of Defence.
