To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement about the collection of betterment levy imposed by the Land Commission Act 1967.

It is no longer cost effective to continue pursuing collection of betterment levy. In the 1992–93 financial year, £232,595 has been written off. There remain 52 outstanding cases in England and Wales, totalling £85,676.53. Against this background, I have decided that these cases should also be written off.
