HC Deb 01 February 1994 vol 236 c597W
Mr. Callaghan

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the total number of officers employed on programmes dealing with drug abuse in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Bowis

Government guidelines state that drug misusers should have access to a range of services, including advice and counselling, in-patient and community detoxification, residential rehabilitation and follow up support, where needed. These services are provided by both the statutory and non-statutory sectors. Services employ a range of staff which may include specialist doctors, drug workers, general practitioners, community psychiatric nurses, social and youth workers. Information on the total of these is not held centrally.
