To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what study he has made of the effect of reduced pay differentials in Germany.

The Department has made no such study.

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what steps he is taking to encourage employers to lower pay differentials.

None. Pay is a matter to be determined by the employers and employees concerned. Employers are best able to judge what pay is needed to recruit, retain and motivate their employees at all levels.

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what assessment he has made of the role of pay differentials in the development of trust between workers and management.
