However, the number of hospital in-patients cases associated with poisoning by paracetamol are recorded in a wider category which also includes poisoning by acentanilide and phenacetin. In 1990–91 there were 30,479 finished consultant episodes where poisoning by these substances was shown as the primary diagnosis.
