§ Dr. MawhinneyIt is estimated that around 40 per cent. of gross current expenditure on hospital and community health services in England during 1990–91 was attributable to people aged 65 years and over, who represent approximately 16 per cent. of the population. Figures for other European Community countries are not available centrally.
