HC Deb 26 April 1994 vol 242 c152W
Mr. Cousins

To ask the Secretary of State for Health whether premises in which radiotherapy machines have been situated can be immediately re-used after the machinery has been removed; and what agency is responsible for the safety of sites and buildings during and after such removal.

Mr. Sackville

There is no reason why premises in which radiotherapy equipment has been situated should not be re-used immediately after its removal. There is no residual emission following decommissioning. National Health Service Estates, an executive agency of the Department of Health, has issued comprehensive building guidance covering most Departments. Regulatory aspects of building design and construction are enforced by the local building control authority; safety of sites during use is enforced by the Health and Safety Executive.
