To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many paramedics are currently employed by the London ambulance service; and what the figure was five years ago.

§ Mr. Sackville
The London Ambulance Service currently has over 400 trained paramedics compared to only seven in 1989. This reflects the excellent progress which is being made on paramedic training.
