Mr. Gorst

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many accidents were recorded in the last 12 months involving pedestrians and bicycles.

Mr. Key

Latest available data show that there were 24,962 pedestrian accidents and 49,767 bicycle accidents during the 12 months of 1992.

Mr. Gorst

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what plans he has to introduce regulations making it compulsory for bicycles to carry a warning device to warn pedestrians of their approach.
