HC Deb 22 October 1993 vol 230 c399W
Ms Ruddock

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is his policy on allowing prisoners to give blood.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

[holding answer 19 October 1993]: Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the director general of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter to Ms Joan Ruddock from Derek Lewis, dated 22 October 1993: The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question about the policy on allowing prisoners to give blood. The Prison Service has no general policy on this matter because in practice the National Blood Transfusion Service does not collect blood from prisoners.
