HC Deb 21 October 1993 vol 230 cc323-4W
Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what consultations he has had in relation to the case for designating Cardiff as the location for the proposed European medicines evaluation agency and the benefits that would be created by the presence of the staff of the agency being employed in Wales.

Information is not yet available for the quarter ended 30 September 1993. Figures for 1992–93 and the first quarter of 1993–94 are shown in the following table:

Mr. Gwilym Jones

After extensive consideration the Government decided that the United Kingdom's bid for the European medicines evaluation agency would best be led by the pharmaceutical industry. A strong bid is being mounted by the industry, based on a site in the London area. The Government fully support the industry's bid.
