HC Deb 18 October 1993 vol 230 c82W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many mining companies have offices in the Falkland Islands; and what cases cif mining exploration licences have been sought for.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The only company with interests in mining which has offices in the Falkland Islands is the Falkland Islands Company. It is a subsidiary of Anglo United plc.

Since 1982 the Falkland Islands Government have twice authorised exploratory surveys of one farm. Before Anglo United plc sold its farmlands in the Falkland Islands in 1991, it carried out a preliminary geological survey of those lands.
