HL Deb 18 October 1993 vol 549 cc31-2WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the "Construction Deregulation Task Force" is to see the Prime Minister on 20th July and if so whether, if they press for the abolition of the building regulations, he will have in mind that the chairman of the task force is also chairman of Bovis Construction Ltd.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Trade and Industry (Lord Strathclyde)

My right honourable friend the Prime Minister met the chairmen of the Deregulation Task Forces on 20th July, including Mr. Spackman, chairman of the one covering the construction industry. Members of the task forces were chosen because they know at first hand the burdens which regulations place on the economy and are best placed to advise on reducing them.

Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the Construction Deregulation Task Force is to meet the Prime Minister to seek the abolition of the building regulations.

Lord Strathclyde

The chairman of the Construction Deregulation Task Force met my right honourable friend the Prime Minister on 20th July. No suggestion was made that the building regulations should be abolished.
