HC Deb 30 November 1993 vol 233 c453W
Ms Primarolo

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will estimate the increase in the geriatric population in the next 10 years.

Mr. Sackville

There is no statistical definition of the term "geriatric population", but the population of the United Kingdom aged 75 and over is projected to rise from 3,974,000 in mid-1993 to 4,530,000 in mid-2003, an increase of 14 per cent. according to the Government Actuary's 1991-based projections.
