HC Deb 26 November 1993 vol 233 cc257-8W
Mr. Alex Carlile

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps are being taken to correct the discrepancy in the minimum age requirements of men and women for eligibility for allocation of sheltered accommodation for elderly persons; and if he will make a statement.

Sir George Young

There is no statutory requirement that sheltered housing can be made available only to persons over a certain age. Decisions on the allocation of such accommodation are the responsibility of the landlord concerned.
