HC Deb 25 November 1993 vol 233 cc155-6W
Mr. Hanson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action he has taken in the case of the conditions and handling of imported primates by Shamrock Farms, Brighton.

Mr. Charles Wardle

The actions I required to be taken following the investigation last year were set out in the reply given to a question from my right hon. Friend the Member for Westminster, North (Sir J. Wheeler) on 2 December 1992 at columns215-16. The further action which I took to monitor progress in implementing my requirements, was described in reply to a question from my hon. Friend the Member for Brighton, Kemptown (Mr. Bowden) on 1 April 1993 at column 383-84. Since then, I have continued to receive regular reports from the Animals (Scientific Procedures) inspectorate, and these show that satisfactory progress is being made in accordance with my instructions.
