To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the police establishment for each sector within the Metropolitan police force for April 1992 and for each month thereafter; including details of supernumerary posts.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many officers there are in each rank of the police force; and how many are(a) women, (b) black and (c) Asian.

Table 1 gives the numbers of women officers and of officers from ethnic minorities in the police service as at 31 August 1993, the latest date for which this information is available.

More detailed data on officers from ethnic minority groups is collected only annually. Table 2 gives numbers of black and Asian officers, reported by police forces as at 31 December 1992.
