HC Deb 25 November 1993 vol 233 cc152-3W
16. Mr. Butler

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received regarding the intimidation of witnesses; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Maclean

There is a deep seated public concern, reflected in correspondence I have received and in more general reports, about the intimidation of witnesses and other citizens who assist the police in the fight against crime. We intend to meet that concern by inviting Parliament to approve a new offence of witness intimidation intended to supplemene the existing criminal law in this area.
