To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he can provide figures on homelessness for(a) Coventry, (b) the west midlands and (c) London and the average for major cities in the United Kingdom.

The latest estimates of the number of households for whom local authorities in the west midlands and London accepted responsibility to secure permanent accommodation appear in table 1(a) of "Households found accommodation under the homelessness provisions of the 1985 Housing Act 1985: England. Statistics for the second quarter of 1993".

The latest reported figure for Coventry, and other major cities in England, appear in the associated supplementary table.
