HL Deb 25 November 1993 vol 550 c11WA
Lord Braine of Wheatley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What discussions they have had with the Government of China concerning their population control programme; and whether they wil make it their policy not to give aid to China unless they are satisfied that the Chinese population control programme is no longer coercive.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

We maintain regular contact with the Government of China about its population programme through officials in the British Embassy in Peking and through other official channels within and outside China. We continue to monitor China's human rights record and take into account reports of abuses in the formulation of our policy on aid to China.
