§ Mr. GummerThe Advisory Committee on Business and the Environment was appointed for an initial two-year term in May 1991. It proved an extremely valuable forum for strategic dialogue between Government and industry in environmental issues, and produced a series of practical, action-orientated recommendations in its three progress reports.
In light of the importance of the committee's work, I am delighted to announce that my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade and I have appointed a successor committee under the chairmanship of Derek Wanless, Group Chief Executive of National Westminster Bank. The reconstituted committee met for the first time yesterday. Its membership is as follows:
helping to meet the wider goal of sustainable development. Local authorities should carry out plan appraisals to ensure that they contribute to this aim.
