HL Deb 22 November 1993 vol 550 c1WA
Lord Lyell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are yet in a position to make an announcement about appointments to the United Kingdom Ecolabelling Board.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (Baroness Denton of Wakefield)

The Government are pleased to be able to announce the appointment of Mr. Tim Brown and Dr. Melanie Miller to serve on the UK Ecolabelling Board. Mr. Brown is the Information and Public Relations Officer for the National Society for Clean Air and Environmental Protection and Dr. Miller is an expert on environmental and consumer issues working for the Sustainable Agriculture, Food and Environment Alliance. We hope that the appointment of two new members who have close links with environmental non-government bodies will strengthen the board.

We are also pleased to announce that Professor Roland Clift, Pippa Hyam, Kenneth Miles, Derek Norman, and Nigel Whittaker, who were originally appointed to serve on the Board for one year, have been reappointed for a further period. Mr. Miles has been appointed Deputy Chairman.

Tim Brown has a BSc in Rural Environmental Studies from Wye College. He has worked on a range of environment issues for Friends of the Earth (1979–81), the Council for Environmental Conservation (1981–83) and the Centre for Alternative Technology (1984–87).

Melanie Miller has both an MSc and PhD in the fields of environmental science, technology assessment methods and regulatory policy. Since 1985 she has worked on consumer and environmental issues for the Consumers' Association and Greenpeace. She is also a member of the United Nations Environment Programme's Technical Options Committee.
