§ Mr. John MorrisTo ask the President of the Board of Trade what assessment he has made of the degree of rationalisation of the British steel industry and that of producers in Spain, Germany, France and Italy; and if he will make it his policy to raise with the European Commission any breach by another EC country of the European Coal and Steel Community policies on rationalisation.

The Government will continue to work with the European Commission and other member states to ensure the rigorous application of state aid rules and the elimination of subsidies.
