§ Mr. Heathcoat-AmoryThe negotiations on the GATT Uruguay round, including the question of the proposed596W multilateral trade organisation, are primarily a matter for the Department of Trade and Industry. I understand that officials have regular contact with representatives of the Sustainable Agriculture, Food and Environmental Alliance.
§ Mr. Llew SmithTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what arrangements have been made to provide all hon. Members with a copy of the general agreement on tariffs and trade and a briefing on progress made in the Uruguay round of the GATT negotiations.
§ Mr. Heathcoat-AmoryCopies of the general agreement on tariffs and trade are available in the Library of the House. Hon. Members have received frequent briefings on progress made in the Uruguay round negotiations: for example, my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister has referred to the Uruguay round in reports to the House on the outcome of the Tokyo summit in July and of the recent Brussels European summit. And my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs has reported similarly to the House on discussions in the Foreign Affairs Council. It is open to hon. Members to request further information from appropriate Ministers at any time.
