Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent representations he has received regarding the problems of proliferation arising from the reprocessing and export of plutonium from Sellafield.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

We understand that representations were made on a variety of issues including non-proliferation, during the further round of public consultation on the revised discharge authorisations for Sellafield. These are currently being considered by my right hon. Friends the Secretary of State for the Environment and the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
