Mr. Fisher

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether the contracts awarded to(a) equip, (b) furnish and (c) decorate the new Vauxhall Cross offices of the Secret Intelligence Service were awarded in each case to the company submitting the lowest tender.

Mr. Hurd

Contracts for this project were awarded to companies whose tenders met the requirements of the project and represented the best value for money.

Mr Fisher

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what companies have been awarded the contracts to(a) equip, (b) furnish and (c) decorate the new Vauxhall Cross offices of the Secret Intelligence Service; and what were the prices of each contract.

Mr. Hurd

I do not propose, for reasons of security and commercial confidentiality, to comment on individual companies awarded contracts for projects on behalf of the security and intelligence agencies.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the total cost of equipping, cabling, decorating and furnishing the new Vauxhall Cross offices of the Secret Intelligence Service.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether the contracts for(a) equipping, (b) furnishing and (c) decorating the new Vauxhall Cross offices of the Secret Intelligence Service have been put out to tender.

Mr. Hurd

These contracts have either been put out to tender or let on a negotiated basis by the project management contractor with firms which were retained from the development stage of the project.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether each of the contracts to(a) equip, (b) furnish and (c) decorate the new Vauxhall Cross, Secret Intelligence Service offices were awarded to British companies.

A number of the contracts for this project were awarded to British companies.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many companies tendered for the contracts to(a) equip, (b) furnish and (c) decorate the new Vauxhall Cross offices of the Secret Intelligence Service; and what were the bids of each unsuccessful tender.

Mr. Hurd

A number of companies tendered for the various contracts, but it would be wrong to comment on individual bids on grounds of security and commercial confidentiality.
